Finding new ways to have fun with our favorite activities is one of the best ways to bond and create quality time with family and friends. ย We are soccer lovers around these parts, so with the Beautiful Game on the horizon, a watching party is a must!

I’m thrilled to partner with Modelo, brewed with a fighting spirit and recently crowned the Official Beer of the Beautiful Game, to share clever ways to host your own watch party! ย I love hosting game-watching parties and this one is perfect for a little international flair.

  • Set the scene with Astroturf, found inexpensively at any hardware store. ย It will add texture to your tablescape and really, just fun to use! Add in a few plastic and inflatable globes and flags and your table is set!
  • Since it’s more about watching the game than having to be tied up cooking and serving, I like to serve foods that are easy to maintain. ย A crock-pot full of pulled pork and served on slider buns is guaranteed to please any crowd.
  • Usually I make my own mac and cheese, but to cross one thing off the list, purchase it frozen, heat up and serve in fun paper tubs. Top off with crumbled bacon and even a dollop of sour cream.
  • Don’t just put out a plastic veggie tray, replate all the veggies on a platter ย for a nicer presentation. ย Serve dressing in a small dip bowl.
  • Dirt pudding cups are a popular treat…make an adult version layered with ย crushed graham crackers, pudding made with chocolate liqueur and topped with chocolate shavings, sprinkles and a chocolate soccer ball.

How to score with a soccer tournament watching party; the perfect bar

I love to have a signature drink at my parties and setting up a bar so that guests can help themselves, gives me one less thing to monitor.

How to score with a soccer tournament watching party; serve the Yellow Card

Our drink is the appropriately named the Yellow Card. For those non-soccer-speakers, it is a penalty card, a warning to the player…in this case, the drinker!

2 oz tequila
1 oz lime juice
1 oz simple syrup
2 tablespoons cubed cucumber
Modelo Especial

  1. Add all ingredients, except the beer, to an ice-filled shaker. ย Shake vigorously and strain into a copper mug.
  2. Top with Modelo Especial and garnish with a cucumber wheel.
