Easy décor ideas

I’m all about the easy and reusable decoration; from tissue garlands and fans, having a stash makes it easy to celebrate anytime.

Create an easy garland with patterned cardstock; a vintage-styled 8″ x 8″ square paper pad comes with a variety of patterns. I used a chipboard pennant as a template, then punched a hole near each corner and thread with baker’s twine.

Full sheets of paper were used to create a quick paper runner, with confetti to dress up our party table.

Festive cupcakes

A quick way to make any celebration special is with cupcakes! They are easy to customize, from flavors to cupcake liners. Since you aren’t making cupcakes for a crowd, I’ve got an easy recipe that makes 6 cupcakes. You can double it if you need more.

If you are offended by store-bought cake mixes, look away. I love moist cupcakes, so I always purchase a mix with pudding added and add more pudding.

6 Cupcake Recipe from A Store-bought Cake Mix

When just a few will do! This recipe can be doubled to make 12 cupcakes.
Prep Time 10 minutes
Total Time 10 minutes
Servings 6 cupcakes

Ingredients

  • 1 15.5 oz box cake mix in your choice of flavor I used Betty Crocker Delights Super Moist Lemon Cake Mix
  • 1 3.9 oz box dry pudding mix ***optional*** Choose a matching flavor to your cake mix, i.e. chocolate mix/chocolate pudding. If you are using a flavor with no direct match, i.e. red velvet, use vanilla pudding.; I used Jell-O Lemon Instant Pudding Mix
  • 1 egg
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable or canola oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. If you are not using traditional cupcake liners, (I used baking cups), follow their instruction for oven temperature.
  2. In a mixing bowl, add cake mix and dry pudding; mix well.
  3. You will only use 1 cup of the cake mix mixture; spoon cake mix mixture into a 1-cup measuring cup; gently tap the cup to distribute evenly the mix, and level top with knife. Pour into another mixing bowl.
  4. Add water, oil and egg.
  5. Beat vigorously by hand with whisk or mixer on low speed until thoroughly mixed.
  6. Divide evenly into 6 cupcake liners in a muffin tin. If you are using baking cups, you can just place them on a baking sheet.
  7. Bake as directed on your mix’s chart for cupcakes (i.e. my mix is 12 – 17 minutes)
  8. Cool completely before frosting.

Recipe Notes

Store remaining dry mixture in an airtight container for future small-batch cupcake use!

With my cream-cheese frosting recipe, finish the look with sprinkles and cupcake toppers! I created mine, cutting the design from the same patterned cardstock as my banners, and adhering to wood food picks.

Always a party with cookies

Dipping cookies in candy melts and adding sprinkles never goes out of style. Palmiers are such a pretty pastry all by themselves. They are sturdy enough to hold it all up and only get prettier.

Simply melt your candy melts according to the package direction, dip half the palmier in, lay on a sheet of wax paper, and add sprinkles before the candy sets.

Yes, I love black and white cookies and will always have them on a party table…

Treats not tricks

Keeping things simple, store-bought snacks don’t need to be fancy, it doesn’t take much to make things special.

Clear vessels like apothecary jars, are a must in your entertaining arsenal for their versatility.

Drinks on me

No fancy punchbowls here…glass soda bottles are my go-to, especially with reusable straws. Sidebar, reusable straws are my newest obsession…I don’t need more straws, paper or plastic, but there you go.

You have some time to get your hands on a few supplies…
