We’re Off To See The Wizard
While perusing my local library today, I came across The Book of Wizard Parties. And how awesome is it, every chapter is based on a theme: “Alchemists’ Gathering” “Chinese Dragon Fete” “Merlin’s Birthday Parley” “Open Sesame! Aladdin’s Cave Party” “Springtime Fairy Frolic” “Egyptian Summer Solstice Party” “Spirited Druid Halloween Gathering” “Wizard’s Winter Revels” and a whole chapter devoted to making basic wizard attire.
They have full details on everything you need for each soiree, full recipes, and even an appropriate story for storytelling time. Here are a few ideas if you are planning a shindig for your Harry Potter fanatic, just in time for the November release of the sixth film. Or maybe a Merlin fanatic? Perhaps Wizard of Oz?
Halloween anyone?
Set the tone with this too adorable invite from Anna Bean, just fill in the info and you’re ready for the magic to begin. They also have matching thank you cards.
Kids have a natural love for mystery and magic. With a few decorating props like spiderwebs, strings of twinkling lights, and a few plastic bugs and frogs, turn any room into an enchanted wizards’ lair. Set up an alchemist’s lab with lots of ooze, things that bubble and smoke.
Collect jars and plastic bottles, add colored water and give them labels like Lizard’s Blood and Liquid Bats. Set up cauldrons with water and add dry ice (please follow directions, use tongs, NEVER touch dry ice with bare hands) for a nice smoke affect.
Check out websites on science experiments like Boardman’s Science Lab Magic, where guests can make Sorcerer’s Slime, and do other impressive projects.
If you are leaning towards a Wizard of Oz party, check out Celebrate Express’s ultimate party pack, complete with a rainbow pinata and red goblets.
Send them over the rainbow with this cake and cupcake, both from FamilyFun.

Use a roll of yellow butcher to make a yellow brick road that leads from the street to the party room.
Make Glinda wands; pre-paint and attach wooden dowels and stars, and let guests decorate them with stickers and ribbon.
Who wouldn’t want to be sent home with this candy-filled ruby shoe or a basket full of goodies?
