Welcome to the Summer Olympics

It’s that time again, opening games start next Friday. Hosting a shindig? How about a viewing party? Here’s some inspiration…

Invite your guests to come dressed in the attire for their favorite summer Olympic sport.

As with all sports parties, be sure you have at least one, if not more, televisions in good working order. Make sure there is enough comfortable seating around each television.

Create a ballot that lists the competitors for the events that will be viewed during the party. At the beginning of your party ask each guest to select their first, second and third picks for each event. Award prizes like a bag of gold coins or this chocolate trophy lollipop to the winners at the end of the evening.

You can dig out your 4th of July decorations, or try this hanging ceiling decor.

If your friends are an active group, set up your own mini-Olympics before the games begin. Try relay races with flashlights to represent the Olympic torch, a soccer match, or a timed obstacle course that includes hurdles over pillows, crawls through large boxes with the bottoms and tops cut off, and walks across wooden planks that are placed on the ground.

With Beijing as the host city, serve authentic Chinese food including egg rolls, won tons, noodles, and fortune cookies. Or make your menu international with a flag for each dish. Check out this this box of 50 toothpicks from Plum Party. Keep the foods simple, but try to represent as many countries as you can. Try some Olympic (onion) Rings, mini tacos and quesadillas, gyros, brats, pizza, and good ole hot dogs. And you must serve Gatorade, along with other beverages. Keep their hands clean with these great silver trophy napkins.
