Your Summer Needs a Breakfast Picnic

Picnics and summer go hand in hand, usually an afternoon or evening affair, a gorgeous day filled with light or evening glow. However, your summer needs a breakfast picnic.

You know I am a lover of breakfast and brunch and a lover of picnics. What would be better than combining the two? Sometimes I am in the mood to stand in line at the hottest brunch spot (though not my husband, and not on Father’s Day…the last time we did such a venture), and sometimes, I am not. A breakfast picnic bypasses all of that plus the added benefit of prime lawn/park table space. After all, most park-goers are showing up early afternoon.

Here is the perfect picnic list…
- canvas drop cloth
- picnic basket
- people (optional but recommended)
- something to eat
I love the canvas drop cloth (one of my favorite picnic tips) because it can cover the ground or a yucky table in a flash! With a neutral cover and plastic liner, it is perfect for any type of picnic situation.

Let’s talk about the picnic basket. This adorable one from Michaels combines classic and modern needs and I am obsessed with it. It is so cute and durable and thermal lined…I may need the red one too.
Here’s another great option since this basket is no longer available; I also have a collapsable insulated tote from World Market.
So what’s inside?

Just a few must-haves…keep your carbon footprint low with reusable and recyclable supplies…
- plastic baskets
- wooden cutlery
- the only acceptable ants at the picnic
- clear cups with lids (perfect for keeping bugs out)
- metal cups (a thrift store find and great for hot drinks)

…and food! As the reason for the season, it is the most important. You can put in whatever is available to you, especially seasonal fare. Since this is a breakfast picnic, let’s throw a few options out. The biggest focuses should be easy to transport and easy to eat.
- hardboiled eggs
- orange juice; paired with mini bottles of sparkling wine, (again, World Market has a fabulous selection), mimosas on the go!
- rosé on-the-go
- breakfast pastries like mini muffins, danishes, bagels, mini croissants
- thermos with hot beverage of your choice
- fresh fruit like strawberries, cherries, and grapes. Stay away from cut fruit like watermelon and pineapple, sticky equals mess and attracts bugs.
- fully cooked bacon! Find it in the grocery store near pepperoni and other shelf-stable meats.
- single-serving yogurt cups
- mason jars of granola
- dip cups for condiments like cream cheese, peanut butter, and jam

Add breakfast picnic to your summer bucket list! Do you have a great picnic tip? Leave a comment, would love to hear about it…
