Seattle Welcomes Cirque Du Soleil – LUZIA
We received tickets to attend the show in exchange for press coverage through Allied Integrated Marketing and no compensation was provided. As always, all opinions are my own.
Whenever we are in, say Las Vegas, talking my family…well, my husband, into going to a show like Cirque Du Soleil, is a no-win situation. ย He has 10 reasons why he won’t go. ย When I was offered the chance to attend opening night to the latest incarnation in our own Seattle backyard, I was there. ย However, last night was still a work/school night and I feared he would bolt like a frightened rabbit when I asked if he wanted to go. ย He said yes.

The name LUZIA fuses the sound of โluzโ (light in Spanish) and โlluviaโ (rain), two elements at the core of the showโs creation. ย It takes you to an imaginary Mexico, like in a waking dream, where light quenches the spirit and rain soothes the soul. The tableaux of LUZIA weave an intricate, contemporary mosaic that awakens your senses and transports you to a place suspended between dreams and reality.
This showย marks the first time Cirque du Soleil presents a production under a Big Top featuring printed patterns directly related to the theme of the show.ย Integrating the element of water to a Big Top show is also a first at Cirque du Soleil. The idea of placing a water basin under the stage floor and creating a rain curtain paid huge dividends on the acrobatic front. It was absolutely stunning and we could not believe our eyes! ย The colors, the music, the intricately time choreography…everything I expected from aย Cirque du Soleilย performance and more.

Opening night also meant lots of fabulous details both inside and out! From stilt walkers and costumed entertainers to sweet treats and impromptu dancing amongst live musical performers, it was a colorful feast for the eyes and ears. ย My 12 and 15 year old boys were memorized by it all…and since it didn’t involve screens or super heroes, that is saying a lot.

Stationed in Marymoor Park, ย LUZIA is here in Seattle for aย limited engagement through May 21, 2017. For more information, clickย here to visit. ย It is a family-friendly show and I highly recommend you put it on your Spring Break and Easter to-do list if you live in this area, before it moves on to Denver and Chicago. You will not be disappointed…check out my Stories before they disappear for even more behinds the scenes.
