I know, Thanksgiving isn’t even here yet and you have to think about Christmas? Of course, you have to start planning for all the Black Friday deals! Every day this week I’ll be bringing you lots of ideas for holiday gift giving for just about everyone on your list and getting you home ready for the holidays.
Yesterday was full of hostess gift ideas and today, we are getting your home ready for entertaining! Big Lots has declared ย November 16 – 22 as National Decorate Your Home for the Holidays Week. ย To help them celebrate, I was challenged to head to my local store and pick up a few pieces to turn my formal living room into a Winter Wonderland.
I’ve been shopping at Big Lots for years! I remember, many moons ago, when we moved from North Carolina to California, I had the pleasure of discovering a store in our neighborhood. ย I was working on building up my ornament stash for our fairly new tree and gleefully, I purchased many wood ornaments that we still have, to this day.
Be sure and head to your local store first when you are ready to get your home holiday ready. There is such a wide array ofย fabulous holiday and seasonal decor items, and you can’t beat the product quality and price. Just like planning for a party, the earlier you start planning for the holidays, the better. Decorating earlier means less stress and better selections, especially since styles and assortment vary by store.
Alright, let’s jump into how I got my formal living room holiday ready! I am currently obsessed with stag heads; don’t they just scream winter?
- Animal-inspired decor like like faux fur throws and animal figurines are fabulously on-trend pieces, perfect for display during the holidays.
- Don’t forget your natural accents like branches, pine cones and evergreen garlands and wreaths.
Imagine my delight when I came across this silver stag head; I knew he would be a perfect start for creating a centerpiece with my mirror tray.
- With a little fake snow, disco ball ornaments and flameless candles (all available at Big Lots), you can recreate the look with your favorite tray for your tabletop.
- Mixing metallics has become very popular for home decor, especially when you add in your holiday decor. ย Feel free to mix and match your favorite silver and gold pieces for the perfect amount of glam and sparkle throughout your home.
- For the couch, I paired my existing brown pillows with a warm faux fur throw and festive holiday pillows. ย Layering textiles is the perfect way to make a space more inviting for guests.
- For my artwork that hangs over, I always cover it with wrapping paper to make them more festive. ย This is a great way to coordinate your walls for the holidays.
- I’ve always wanted new window treatments for my bay windows; since Big Lots has a great selection of hardware and coverings, I purchased and installed new curtains to finish my room. ย I love the way they frame the large window, and I can’t wait to see how they frame our Christmas tree when it goes up.
- Everyone should have a bar cart; not only are they perfect for parties but when they aren’t your best hostess tool, become a fabulous part of your home decor.
- Display your favorite drink glasses and bottles and create a simple holiday vase by filling a tall vessel with fake snow and snow-topped branches.
- During a party, I use my chalkboard for my drink or dinner menu. ย When not in use, I turn it into a ย easy backdrop for my bar cart by covering it with wrapping paper.
- With a little floral wire, attaching a garland to the cart finishes the look.
.
- My bar cart is home to some of my many party books; don’t be afraid to use your favorite tomes as home decor. ย A bowl of glittered pine cones and a few more disco ball ornaments and they are ready for the holidays.
- Scour your home for existing pieces to use; do you have apothecary jars or lanterns being used elsewhere? They are perfect for holding jingle bells, ornaments and more.
I hope you have been inspired for ways to decorate your home for the holidays. ย Need more ideas? Be sure and visit Big Lots to view the Christmas catalog and to check out ideas, tips, and inspiration.
