I am so excited for the release of the live-action version of Wonder Woman this summer…kicking ass in an unforgiving outfit and heels? That is a powerful woman indeed! How about gathering the fabulous women in your life for a Wonder Woman-inspired Girls’ Movie Night Out Party, a get-together at home before heading out to see the movie in theaters on June 2nd?
I love hosting these types of events, especially if it’s with a group of people that haven’t met before. It gives everyone a chance to get to know each other in a relaxed atmosphere or for familiar friends to touch base. We all lead such busy lives and everyone should take a moment to slow down and enjoy an evening together.

I was sent a Wonder Woman kit with a few goodies to use for our party and after picking up my supplies at the store, pulling together our party was a breeze. Because I’m all about easy entertaining, I kept our nibbles easy and decorating to a minimum. Our color palette is inspired by the classic costume colors of red, yellow and blue and black and white stripes to play off comic book graphics, while silver and gold accents are a nod to the modern costume.
- Carnations are a much maligned flower but combined with kale leaves and flag picks made from comic book paper, make a fun floral centerpiece.
- Orville Redenbacher’s® Butter Pop Up Bowl makes it easy and fun to serve popcorn.
- Inexpensive star shaped paper plates are perfect for serving up snacks; I always serve a balance of fresh fruit, sweet and salty snacks.
- Twist yellow licorice into golden lassos!
- Make confetti by punching out comic book pages with a star punch.
I always love to have a little something that is ‘over the top’ at my parties whether it is a fabulous backdrop or tabletop showpiece…it may look complicated but secretly, so easy! Ours is a 3 tiered chocolate cake with caramel buttercream, topped in homemade caramel sauce and finished with fresh popcorn drizzled in more caramel sauce and fun sprinkles! My big secret, start with a store-bought frosted cake!
You would be surprised, grocery store bakeries have serious cake making game and ordering a custom cake makes life so easy. The hardest part was making the caramel sauce, but ‘hard’ is deceiving…it is only 3 ingredients and no need for a candy thermometer.
How To Top The Cake
- Armed with freshly popped popcorn, our caramel sauce for topping and some added to a small bottle for drizzling and a smoothly iced (and cold) cake, I followed my same tips for topping with ganache for the caramel sauce.
- I used an offset knife to smooth the top. Again, it doesn’t have to be pretty, it will be covered in popcorn.
- Pile popcorn on top of the cake, then use the small bottle to drizzle with caramel sauce. Add sprinkles.
We know the best part of any party is the bar! Why be tied up as the bartender when you can create a drink station so guests can help themselves. I love offering various drink choices like Dr Pepper in small cans so guests don’t feel pressured to finish (or waste) a larger offering. Be sure and check out my inspired cocktail!
I hope you have been inspired to have a little pre-funk fun before seeing the new Wonder Woman movie! If you are planning to go, who will you go with? We would love to hear who you want to share a special evening with.
