Tuesday Trend – Party In Plaid

Nothing says fall and Christmas more than plaid. We in the U.S. consider plaid as any cloth woven with perpendicular bands of two or more colors, but did you know it is a broad term that covers a ridiculous amount of patterns from tartans and checks to stripes?  From houndstooth to Shepard’s Check, gingham to madras, we love them all.

Like the rest of the world, I’m obsessed with Target’s plaid offerings, from the coffee carafe that I used on my Marvel Halloween party table, to my latest obsession, their plaid and gold-trimmed tumblers.  I love that they are perfect for any season, you can dress them up or down.

Don’t be afraid of plaid for the holidays and don’t listen to everyone who says it’s cliché; it’s classic.  Mix and match it, use a little or a lot!  Well, not too much…unless you are going for the rustic-cabin-in-the-woods look. Use it as an accent and tie it together with other patterns in the same colors.  I  used a great houndstooth wrapping paper as a table runner for a Thanksgiving table and pulled it together with my striped ribbon and solid black plates.
