Tuesday Tip/Tutorial – Garage Sale Tracker/Sharpie Art
Today’s tip is for all you garage sale fiends who are up at the crack of dawn scoring the neighborhood for “the one”. I don’t know what “the one” is, that’s what everyone says out here about garage saleing. Wait, spellcheck doesn’t recognize “saleing”, is it “selling”? See, I don’t know.
Anyhoo, Garage Sales Tracker takes the guesswork out for both sellers and buyers, by offering individuals the ability to advertise garage sales on the Internet. They feature tools that allow prospective buyers to more easily find garage sales and increased visibility for sellers.
Now, for the tutorial part and perfect for Father’s Day; bypass the pottery painting store and dig out those Sharpies. I discovered this over on Everyday Celebrating, and I can’t wait to do this with the boys. Simply take a oven-proof porcelain piece like a plate or a mug, draw your design directly on the item with Sharpies, and bake in the oven for 20 minutes at 350 degrees. Load up on pieces from your local Dollar Store and you’ll be covered for Christmas this year!

That website for garage sales is great! There are a ton of tips there for having a garage sale of your own or bartering at one…i love that!
when you bake, do you place on a cookie sheet.?
Yes you can, but you don't have to…it has to remain in the oven until it's completely cooled anyways…
does the cup/place have to been oven safe?
Yes, it does
IS it oven/micro/dishwasher safe and permanent after you bake it??
Hmmm, that's a good question! Yes, it is permanent but I don't know about the high heat of the dishwasher and oven…I haven't made pieces that would need to go into the oven, and I just hand wash them.
I made a few plates this weekend…. when you put yours in the oven did it turn your colors a funny shade? Also, when I wiped it off with a damp rag, some of the color came off. Do you think it's b/c I didn't leave mine in the oven to cool??
Yes, the colors turn a little, lighter colors like yellow and pink turned a little darker. If you are using a permanent marker, it shouldn't wipe off even before you bake it, so coming off after is a little odd. I'm not sure about that!
