Tuesday Tip – Good Garnishes

Continuing on with my previous post on setting up your own bar, we’ll focus now on garnishes for those fab drinks you’ll be preparing. Don’t underestimate the power of garnishing. A smart accent, no matter how simple or elaborate is a special, unexpected touch. The possibilities are endless, especially for seasonal drinks.garnish collageSwizzle sticks – Sexy and practical, they keep the drink uniformly cool and blended. Candy canes, rock candy and cinnamon sticks maker perfect wintertime swizzles.

Rimmers – Coat the rim of your glass with a wedge of lemon before dipping into a saucer of granulated garnish, from tinted sugars to ground pepper. Use corn syrup for heavier shavings of crushed candy, or ground coffee.

Fancy Ice Cubes – Add cranberries, maraschino cherries, or a sprig of mint to make pretty cubes. Freeze fruit like raspberries, grapes and melon balls in place of ice cubes. Or try a few lighted ice-cubes in festive colors.

Zest – Create a fine confetti of thin threads shaved from the skin of a citrus fruit or a block of chocolate.
