A Crafternoon for Galentine’s Day
This is a sponsored post; payment, trade and/or products have been received in exchange for promotion for Oriental Trading and as always, all opinions are my own.
If you haven’t heard, Galentine’s Day on February 13 has been gaining popularity since its 2012 introduction by Leslie Knope of Parks And Recreation. I have always promised myself to host my own crafternoon with my lady friends. We finally had the chance to get our schedules to align, catch up on life and make valentines.
My friends at Oriental Trading have so much fun to get you set for Galentine’s Day….let’s face it, a lot what you’ll see today is OTC magic!
Because I was hosting our crafternoon at a local coffeehouse, I wouldn’t have a lot of time to decorate. I focused on the tables and a quick backdrop wall to cover the chalkboard’s hot messness. I always suggest if you are short on decorating time, dedicate your time to focal points.
I was so thrilled to find this wrapping paper from Spoonflower! Did you know they make more than just textiles? Make your own placemats by adhering your favorite paper to 11″ X 17″ poster board.
Favor boxes were filled with mini trinket trays and flair buttons, and finished off with these free tags that I embellished with gold leaf.
Shop the Look: moss runner, paper for placemats, tissue fans, diamond punch for table scatter
Greenery backdrops are so in; I was inspired by this boxwood backdrop tutorial to create my own 40″ X 40″ mini version!
- I used 4 20″ boxwood mats and mounted them on 19″ by 39″ pegboard pieces instead so I can insert prop pieces. Cut the pegboard a little shorter than the greenery because it was not exactly 20″ X 20″ and I didn’t want any edges exposed.
- It was easy to connect the pegboard with 2 1/2″ by 1 3/4″ hinges, replacing the existing screws with 3/4″ flat Phillips screws and nuts.
- Line up the boxwood mats and attach with a staple gun. Be sure and line up the boxwood mats near the edge of the pegboard, not overlapping, so when you stand up the finished panel, it won’t be crushing the boxwood edge.
- Set up a sweets area with a variety of candy, pretty beverage bottles and of course, paper straws.
- Terrariums are a great way to add visual interest to any area, especially clustered together.

- Break out your favorite craft supplies (or replenish your stash at your local craft store!) and invite everyone to let their imaginations roll. From stickers and sequins, to stamps, washi tape and paper punches, we had it all. I even showed how to take your envelopes to the next level with envelope liners.
- Use small metal trays to help corral trash and keep the work area somewhat organized.
- Set up a fun temporary tattoo area for an additional party activity.

A fabulous crafternoon had by all! Everyone went home with sweet valentines for all the special people in their lives.
