Last week, we hosted a Mad Scientist’s Lab Party and with the crazy number of photos, I figured it would be better to share over several posts. First I shared our slime-making and Elephant’s Toothpaste experiment and molecule building competition. Today it’s the rest of the party!
The Decor:
- I never tire of my tissue decor…layering fans and poms with inexpensive cheesecloth, shredded cloth and party tape from Dollar Tree makes the perfectly spooky backdrop.
- I’ve been collecting various jars and bottles for years, from all kinds of sources. ย The best deals happen after the holidays, when items are marked down, so be sure to keep your eye out for them. ย Need some new pieces now? ย The test tubes are fromย Martha Stewart, the test tube racksย andย ย glass beakers
ย (holding Sixlets) I ordered on Amazon.
- Like my molecules? I spray painted Styrofoam balls and attached them with large lollipop sticks.
- Don’t forget the little details like lots of plastic bugs, spiders and rats!
The Food:
- It’s still a kids’ party so keep the food fun and simple. ย Renaming food never, ever gets old. Ever. Green Cheetos puffs become ‘Particle Puffs’; ‘Graveyard Digs’ are jars of brownie pieces covered with syrup and topped off with a gummy snake.
- From too-fun candy skewers from the fabulous Sweets Indeed to Jell-O in plastic beakers, make everything kid-portion friendly. They really don’t eat a lot.
- I love the labels on the Graveyard Digs, drink bottles and favor tags! ย ICustomLabelย reached out to me to design my own custom labels. ย I sent in a high quality file and with their ‘Create Your Own Label’ option, they turned them into 2.5″ round jar labels, 3″ mini wine labels for our Martinelli bottles and the hanging gift tags on our favor bags.
- I’m not a big Halloween candy fan…I know they’ll have lots of sweets elsewhere, so I kept the favor bag goodies simple with a mix of edible and non-edible goodies
We had a wonderful day and the kids had a blast!
I couldn’t help but share this shot of soaking off the water-proof labels. ย It took forever, and I had to use a scrubber, so yeah if you are looking for labels that aren’t going to disintegrate or bleed when they get wet. ย I was very impressed.
I hope you are inspired to host your own Mad Scientist’s Lab!
