Although my boys are getting too old for playdates…’it’s called hanging out, Mom’ my 13 year old informed me…I still want to make them a fun time to get together, and give me an excuse to entertain. ย Since Valentine’s Day can get ‘girly’ I wanted to put a little spin on it for those of you entertain boys…RAWR Means XOXO in Dinosaur.
There is no need to stress out making a special tablescape…including no-bake treats. ย Everything here is storebought with easy to find supplies. ย Let’s walk through the details and you’ll be putting together a fun table in no time…
Reusable decor is your biggest help; investing in tissue fans and lanterns will make anytime celebrating a snap. ย Oriental Trading Co. is my favorite place to find party supplies and for bulk pricing on tissue fans, they can’t be beat. ย Although my honeycomb balls are from Shop Sweet Lulu, the tissues fans are from Oriental Trading Co.
I’m not a big latex balloon person but I do love mylar balloons because they can be deflated and reused again. ย Theย XO mylar balloonsย are so my favorite, although they are WAY bigger than I expected at 34″…for some reason I thought it said 24″. ย And what does one need to fill up almost 3′ worth of balloons? A Balloon Time tank of course..
If you follow me, you know I can’t get enough of using wrapping paper as a table cover…this great silver and hearts paper is from Target. ย I laid it over sequin material…man, a couple yards of sequin is not cheap. ย I couldn’t find what I wanted at Jo-Ann Fabrics so I had to pay full price at another store that doesn’t take coupons. ย I won’t say any names, but it also has Fabrics in its name. ย But toootally worth it.
- Chalkboard is so on trend; I set the scene by layering these cuteย Valentine chalkboard dinner plates with square dinner plates from Dollar Tree.
- Even the lowly chicken nugget becomes a work of art on skewers. ย In fact, skewering anything makes it more classy.
- Plastic toy dinosaurs make awesome cupcake toppers and guests can keep them! ย Feel free to stop by your favorite bakery for cupcakes…
- Ever since I came across Love From The Oven’s mini Rice Krispies Treats cakes, I’ve been obsessed with them! They are even easier to make using pre-made sheets. ย I found mine, of all places, at 7-11. ย They remind me of the naked cake trend, so I piped frosting around the edges and added a jumbo heart sprinkle to mimic the look.
- Make it easier for smaller hands to pour their own beverages by using mini milk jugs from Shop Sweet Lulu.
- Instead of setting out a veggie tray, replate your veggies on a flat plate or platter, and add a few dinosaurs. ย Mine are papier-mache creatures from a local art supply store that I spray-painted silver.
- Dress up French square plastic bottles from The TomKat Studio with Valentine candy braceletsย and a fun paper straw.
- These cute treat jars are filled with freshly excavated dinosaur bones …aka yogurt covered pretzels and candy pebbles.
- They are an easy DIY; I glued toy dinosaurs onto the lids of short jars, thenย spray painted the lids. ย They can go home with guests and become great storage for toys and other items.
Incorporate all these ideas or pick your favorite for a fun and festive tablescape this Valentine’s Day.
