Fiesta Friday – Día De Los Muertos

Día De Los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is actually a multi day celebration. I see conflicting reports, from 3 days, October 31 to November 2 to only November 1 and 2.  But hey, any party that lasts more than a day is number 1 in my book! Plus, it’s a holiday rich in tradition and folklore and has been celebrated for hundreds of years.

For those of you who celebrate or others looking for a fresh idea for their Halloween party, here are a few a few fab fiestas to get you inspired!

Après Fête’s celebration is hauntingly beautiful! I love the use of rosaries and dark hued flowers.

Pottery Barn’s Spooky Bones party has great elements that would transfer well.

This gorgeous wedding featured on The Hostess Blog has lots of color, a crucial element for any Día De Los Muertos celebration.

RBK Creations‘ felt and peg doll topper is no longer available (how awesome are those skull pops), but order a few blank pegs and set them out for guests to create their own calacas.

Now’s the time to hit up your craft store for skulls and coffins to paint and decorate in vibrant colors for your party space. And while you are about, hit up Dollar Tree for this skull ice tray mold (yup, there it is again! The same one from my Halloween Party In A Box) so you can make sugar calaveras like these from Dollar Store Crafts.
