Drink of the Week – Snugglers
The name alone is too cute, and it’s a great jazzed up drink for the kids, and perfect for Christmas morning!
Apparently, the adult version replaces peppermint extract with peppermint Schnapps. In fact, I’ll add it below.
Recipe and picture courtesy of Williams-Sonoma Kid’s Parties
2 qts. whole milk
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 cup sugar
2 teaspoons peppermint extract(essence)
In a saucepan over medium heat, warm the milk until small bubbles appear around the edges of the pan. Meanwhile, in a small bowl or cup, stir together the cocoa powder and the sugar, breaking up any lumps, then stir in the peppermint extract. Add about 1/4 cup of the milk to the cocoa powder mixture and stir until blended.
Just before serving, stir the chocolate mixture into the hot milk, and divide the cocoa evenly among 8 mugs. Serve hot.
Topping Suggestions – Garnish each serving with a sprinkling of mini marshmallows and a peppermint-stick straw, or with a dollop of lightly sweetened whipped cream and a sprinkling of crushed peppermint candies. To coat the rim of each mug with crushed peppermint candies before filling, brush the rim with simple syrup ( 1 part sugar dissolved in 1 part boiling water) then dip the rim into a saucer of crushed candies.
Recipe courtesy of Drinkswap.com – serves 1
3/4 oz peppermint Schnapps
