Cactus Inspired Cinco De Mayo Party

Cinco de Mayo is right around the corner and if you have never hosted a party (or looking for some new ways to brighten your annual shindig), my cactus inspired table has a few tricks up its sleeve you can try.  Colorful decorations and easy food and drinks will have you and your guests feeling festive in no time.

With so many colorful options and directions to go in, it can be a little overwhelming; there is no wrong way when it comes to Cinco de Mayo fiesta decorating.  Since I have lots of fun cactusware, I decided to throw them all in and build everything around it.

  • Set the scene by covering your table with a colorful blanket or scarf. I used my piรฑata placemats from a few years ago with hand-punch triangle confetti for ours.
  • Margarita glasses aren’t just for drinks; use them to serve tortilla chips for a twist on the traditional chip and dip bowl.
  • Jalapeรฑo poppers are the perfect nibbles; save some time and hit up your favorite grocer’s refrigerated section to see if they have them prepped and oven ready.
  • Use fun cactus plates and wood utensils for festive and easy cleanup.
  • Don’t spend the evening as bartender; make a festive punch that can entertain a crowd and serve in a large punchbowl or drink dispenser.

My favorite part was making Cactus Twinkies! They are so easy to make and of course, how can you go wrong with Twinkies covered in frosting?

  • Mixing real and faux foliage is a great way to stretch your entertaining budget.  I used real blooms with faux succulent stems that are also used for other decorating elements.
  • Don’t forget other items like mini piรฑatas and maracas.  They can be used for decor year after year.
  • Serve candy and nuts in shot glasses, whether they are glass or plastic like mine.
  • Fun party favors like small liquor bottles, Mexican candy or kitschy fun like these taco coin purses are always a win.
