Blood Orange Ginger Lemonade
From around November to May, the blood orange makes its annual appearance and I can’t get enough of their pretty! I love the dark color that makes its summer cousins seem less exciting. I’m always looking for ways to play with them and have finally gotten around to actually sharing a recipe or two.
This Blood Orange Ginger Lemonade takes advantages of this wonderful citrus and pairs it as a summer ready lemonade! Add vodka or white rum and turn it into a cocktail, ready to party! I absolutely love making Martha Stewart’s ginger syrup, it add the perfect kick to this lemonade.
This recipe makes a small pitcher’s worth, so you can sip away the afternoon.

Blood Orange Ginger Lemonade
Ingredients
- 3/4 - 1 cup ginger syrup Find the recipe here; https://www.marthastewart.com/1149407/ginger-syrup-apple-ginger-sparklers
- 1 cup blood orange juice from about 5 large oranges. If you don't like a lot of pulp, feel free to strain your juices. I like a little of the blood orange pulp for texture, so I didn't strain all of my fresh juice.
- 1/4 cup fresh orange juice
- 1 cup lemon juice
- 3 cups sparkling water
- blood orange slices for garnish
Instructions
-
In a large pitcher, combine all the juices and half of the ginger syrup. Add more ginger syrup to desired sweetness.
-
Place in blood orange slices and cover, then place in the fridge for at least an hour before serving.
-
When ready to serve, add in sparkling water and stir. Garnish with blood orange slice wedges.
When I discovered Oui by Yoplait’s amazing jars, I knew they would be perfect for cocktail glasses when the yogurt was gone. I dressed them up with easy-to-make crepe paper fringe and coordinating paper straws.
- Cut 2 1″ wide strips of heavy crepe paper along the short side.
- Use a sharp pair of regular scissors or fringe scissors to fringe the strips.
- Wrap the lower row of fringe first, trimming off the excess length and attach with clear tape. Repeat with the top row of fringe.
I feel like my glasses are going to start dancing and shimming their fringe skirts.
Package a pretty bottle’s worth with a few blood oranges and alcohol, as a thoughtful hostess gift like my lemon margarita box.
Cheers to spring!
