A Handmade Holiday – DIY Drink Ornaments + Party Decorations
We’ll be having fun and partying DIY all week as part of Sara ofย Confetti Sunshine’sย A Handmade Holiday Party Hop. She brought a group of creative party-loving bloggers to collaborate together and make one fabulous party full of DIY and inspirational party goodness!
ย Day 1 wasย DIY Gift Wrapping & Holiday Banners, day 2 wasย DIY Ornaments, and today is Day 3, DIY Party Decorations that includes my contribution, ornament party drinks! ย
A few years ago for my Gift Wrapping Christmas party, I used new glass ornaments as drink bottles. ย The sticky wicket that I didn’t think about was guests couldn’t couldn’t set them down when they were done drinking. ย Ever since, I’ve been trying to figure out a way to make them more user-friendly.
Finally, I came across the solution…wood carbone rings. I have no idea what they are for, but I found them in the knitting/crocheting section of my craft store. So, I’m assuming they are for knitting/crocheting. ย A standard sized ornament will sit perfectly in one. This is so easy to do, you will be running out and making a few for your party.
1. Glittah up your carbone rings.
2. Glue them to your plastic ornaments. Any liquid adhesive works, but no hot glue…’cuz you may melt your ornament.
3. When dry, fill with a COLD beverage of your choice and add the jumbo straw. ย Again, plasticย + heat = sad face. Plus, how are they going to hold them without burning their fingers?
See? Told you they were easy. ย For more fun DIY party decorations, hop on over and visit my fellow bloggers for their how-tos….

If I have to drink from each ornament I will make these. To cute not to try, bring on the glittah!!!!1
Great solution on the ornament glasses!
Where do you get the plastic ornaments?
Hi Sarah! You can find them at any craft store with the glass ornaments. I got mine at Michael's.
All of these ideas are cute. But I absolutely LOVE your ornament drink vessel! Sooooo clever!
do you wash the ornaments before using them? is yes, what can you use to wash them in the inside without scratching it?
Hi there! I just swish around a little warm soapy water inside…no need for a crazy cleaning.
Thanks so much Anne!
They are perfect for cocktails!
Thank you!!
Super cute! Thank you so much for linking up to our partyโฆ I am featuring you tomorrow!
I never would have thought to drink out of an ornament! What a fun, creative idea!
Oh my goodness! These are so, so fun! And so smart! The glittery pink bottom is too cute. I would love it if you linked this up to the Handmade Holiday link party on my blog: http://persialou.blogspot.com/2013/11/handmade-holiday-link-party.html Thanks! ๐
Thanks so much!
These are adorable!! Are they considered food safe?
Yes they are, as long as they are new and washed out with warm soapy water.
SO creative! And a lot of fun :). Love em, Dawn!
I know, right? ๐
Thank you!
This is a CRAZY good idea! LOVE it!
This ornament cup is such a darling idea Dawn! Genius too! ๐
Great idea! Going to try it out this holiday season. Will do different color bottoms, so nobody hopefully gets mixed up with their drinks. I know my 5 year old will love this.
Hi Anonymous, these are made from plastic not glass.
I don't intend to be rude, but drinking out of ornaments that are meant for crafting is not food safe. the glass is made very thin and cheap and has an extememely high tendency to splinter, crack, or break. Bits of glass and metal are commonly found in the packages. I just don't find this safe at all.
Wow this is awesome! Thnx!
I was thinking the same thing. I have painted glass balls before and they are so thin. Plastic is perfect. I just need to get to washing them before left over drinks start to dry inside. I also like the use of paper straws that are recyclable or compostable rather than plastic one time use throw away straws. So cute!

What size mm ornaments did you use? I love this idea!
Sorry Lauren, I accidentally deleted your comment…I wish Blogger didn't put Publish and Delete so close together when I'm trying to moderate from my phone. ๐
They are the standard size, I believe 50 mm?
hi. i LOVE this idea, but i don't think this plastic is food safe. it probably contains chemicals not food safe. i wouldn't do it. i'm trying to find some that are food safe but am having a hard time. anyone find any?
Hi there! Mine are from a local craft store and are labeled non-toxic…I'm sorry, they aren't a big brand that I recognize. Perhaps an online search might find them?
