Mystical Fortunes Halloween Party
Halloween is just about a month away and it’s time to start party planning! I’ve never been a ‘traditional’ party theme person when it comes to holiday parties. Plus, I’m always trying to challenge myself to put something together that hasn’t been done to death (all pun intended).
Inspire your guests to find out what their futures hold with a Mystical Fortunes Halloween Party! With crystal balls, tarot cards, and a little astrology to boot, I have a sixth sense there is definitely fun in your future.

The key to a great table is layers, levels, and texture! Start with a spooky tablecloth, then build from there.
- Layers can come in the form of your decor pieces, at your place setting, even with your centerpiece. Vary the heights of your items; notice I mixed in tall candlesticks and other items with shorter items like crystal balls and votives. It is all about keeping the eyes moving up and down, back and forth as they scan the table. Texture comes in with everything from smooth surfaces to cloth to a soft centerpiece that contrasts with a hardwood table.
This Halloween season is all about the mystical arts; I was thrilled to find a number of inspired pieces at all of my favorite party spots!
- What started my creative wheels turning was Harlow & Grey’s latest collection collaboration with Cynthia Rowley, Zodiac! It was fun to build around these pretty plates!
- Next, create place settings by layering with their Blanc dinner plates, and surprise! clear plastic wine glasses.
- I do love a sweet treat to welcome guests to the festivities; using a hand candy mold with glam lollipop sticks, I created edible place cards that mimic the art of palmistry.

So, everyone says fresh flowers are almost always better. But, it’s ok to fake it…especially during the off-seasons of fall and winter, where gorgeous blooms will be more expensive. I wanted to create an arrangement that I could reuse in my home, especially with my current fall color palette of purples, greys, and dark orange. I headed to my favorite faux flower spot, Hobby Lobby, for a mix of silk and dried florals.

- Did you know that bees are considered mystical? Many ancient cultures believed they bridged the natural world to the underworld. With all things skeleton on trend this Halloween, I couldn’t resist these skeleton bees. Giving them a coat of gold spray paints turns them into amazing decor piecws.
- Michaels has great tarot items in their Halloween section; I scored on a number of items I can use every from the faux books to all-seeing eyeballs.
- Be sure and grab the palmistry hands from Spirit Halloween; they have a 20% off coupon that makes them a steal.
- Oriental Trading has the best deal I have found on crystal balls; they are small per the reviews but work for a tablescape.
- These eyeball orbs from Grandin Road are on sale! I purchased mine from Oriental Trading but they are cheaper now at Grandin Road.

To create my haunted cheeseboard, (along with clever skeleton mice from Grandin Road) my Trader Joe’s was the perfect one-stop-shop for everything you see!
- blue cheese, gouda, and blueberry-rolled goat cheese
- dry salami and sliced beef sirloin roast
- Thomcord seedless grapes and black figs
- fig and olive crisps and Parmesan crisps crackers
- half moon cookies and chocolate covered mini pretzels

I hope you are inspired to throw a mystical fortunes Halloween party this year! Need more ideas? Check out my previous posts…
