Welcome to the final day of the 2017 Holiday Party Hop hosted by Deanna of Mirabelle Creations.  Be sure and check out her post for all of our fun so far! She has brought together myself and 15 other amazing creatives to bring you a week of holiday inspiration.

If you are hopping here from Mint Event Design, welcome! You are in the right place.  If this is your first time here, double welcome!  My name is Dawn and Revel and Glitter is a creative lifestyle and entertaining blog started in 2008 and dedicated to the philosophy that every event is a celebration…and you don’t have to break the bank to do it!

With a focus on the easy DIY, whether it is a tasty cocktail recipe or home improvement project, it is a place for finding new tips and tricks on entertaining, event styling, crafts and lifestyle.

Ran out of time? Throw a last minute Christmas party for kids!

My contribution is helping you throw a last minute Christmas party for kids!  Between all of your shopping, work parties and family gatherings, you kinda forgot you were supposed to help with the annual classroom party…or your existing party snuck up on you.  I’m going to share my very favorite party idea that will keep the kids sugared up and entertained, decorating doughnuts and sipping hot cocoa! Prep is minimal and you need only a couple of hours, shopping included, to pull it all together.

  • I love to cover party tables with paper for easy cleanup! Use black butcher paper or chalkboard paper so you can label your goodies instead of using signage…less time consuming.
  • Cake doughnuts are perfect for frosting; they are dense enough to hold up to toppings and rough handling.  Grocery stores offer them as inexpensive as $5 a dozen!

Now, the best part…all the ingredients for decorating. Whether homemade or store bought, you’ll need frosting in a variety of colors and flavors. Just tint vanilla frosting (or leave plain) along with chocolate frosting.  Let your imagination run wild and use add-ons like:

  • holiday sprinkles
  • toffee bits
  • crushed peppermint candy
  • mini marshmallows
  • white chocolate chips
  • chopped nuts
  • mini chocolate chips
  • gummy bears
  • chocolate candy

Head to your local dollar store and pick up muffin tins to help corral your toppings.

Even better, some of these same toppings can be used to top your hot cocoa!

Speaking of cocoa, can you believe I found these Santa mugs at Target for $3 each?  A vintage set will cost you a pretty penny.  I repackaged a few of our flavored syrups into smaller bottles, perfect for our cocoa.  Finish them off with peppermint spoons.

  • Use paper goods to help with cleanup…there are so many holiday designs for a variety of budgets!  Lovin’ my peppermint napkins? I found them at Hobby Lobby.

Round out your doughnuts with a few other treats like holiday cookies and candy and boom! You’ve got yourself a party!

I hope this helps with your holiday planning…wait, you are inspired to throw a last minute Christmas party now?  Awesome! Let us know how it turns out!
