How To Host An Elf Movie Night Christmas Party

This is a sponsored post for Oriental Trading as part of their Blogger Community. Others may have a different opinion or experience with the products listed.

This year’s Christmas party was inspired by our favorite holiday movie, Elf!  We watch it as often as we can, giggling each time like we’ve never seen it before.  With a little help from Oriental Trading, we were able to spread a little Christmas cheer inviting friends over for an Elf Movie Night Christmas Party!

A Elf Movie Watching Christmas Party is a great way to spend the holidays

Inspiring our color palette is Elf’s ensemble, a great green tunic, yellow tights, and a jaunty red feather in his cap.  I love wrapping paper for table covering but it is also great for party table backdrops.

  • Since our party was on a Sunday afternoon, we kept the menu simple with a popcorn bar and store-bought treats.
  • Balance sweets with healthy options; snap peas and mini tomatoes are holiday-ready!
  • Make cleanup a snap with disposable paperware like plates and napkins.
  • Embellish popcorn boxes with fun stickers.

  • I used some of the movie’s quotes as table signage! If you follow me on Instagram, I’ve been sharing several of the so-cute signage, hand-lettered by my friend Colleen over at Lemon Thistle. If you love hand lettering as much as I do, she’s just opened up an online course to help you learn to brush letter.
  • Set up a sweet candy display using various treats from the movie like candy canes, gumdrops, and more.
  • We served chocolate milk but Coca-Cola is a perfect nod to the movie…especially as floats.
  • Various flavors of popcorn are a must! We had 3 types to make things interesting.

  • Set up a Son Of A Nutcracker painting station. Guests can have a quiet moment in between games, movie watching and snacks painting their nutcrackers.  It also makes a great take-home and keepsake.
  • Cover your table with wrapping paper for easy cleanup.

  • Guests participated in a twist on the traditional gift exchange; bring 4 of their favorite things and pick out 4 new things!  With a range of gifts from cards to candy, books, and toys to a sweet potato (!!!) there was something for everyone!

Another great Christmas party is on the books.  I can’t believe there were kids there who had never seen the movie!
