Eco-Friendly Party Ideas For Earth Day
Earth Day is next Wednesday, April 22. This year marks 45 years of bringing awareness to protecting our planet and resources. Reducing, reusing and recycling should always be a part our lives, especially when it comes to parties and events. They can generate a lot of waste and lost resources. Here are a few eco-friendly party ideas that can cut down on waste and stretch your party dollar.
Biodegradable confetti
Many venues have strict confetti policies and this biodegradable confetti DIY on Ruffled is a fabulous alternative. If you want to purchase instead, there are many eco-friendly options available like Throw & Grow confetti.
Save The Planet Party
The ladies of Bite Me More can make any idea into a party theme! Their Save The Planet party is a plethora of eco-chic ideas from light-bulb napkin holders to a paper tablc cover. The toys and decorations can be sent home with guests when the party’s over.
Edible Centerpieces
I’m crushing on this centerpiece from Homes.com featuring home-grown and farmers’ market fare; enjoy them during the festivities or later as a meal.
Got The World On A String Preschool Graduation Party
From globe inspired decor to a pegboard backdrop, Grey Grey Designs’s party has great pieces that can be incorporated into home decor. Although many of her prop pieces can be used for future parties if you don’t have the space or plan on reusing certain items, renting them is the perfect, eco way to go.
Paperless Meals
Plates and napkins are necessary party evils. Using china and cloth napkins or biodegradable options are always a good options. But sometimes you can avoid both with this clever idea from Parents, wrapping a meal in a bandanna-turned-napkin. You can use other textiles to match your theme.
Double Duty Decor
Edible centerpieces are double duty decor, serving as decoration and food source. Using plants and other greenery not only set a gorgeous table, but serve as another item that guests can take home and enjoy. This shoot from Style Me Pretty has so many earth-friendly ideas that work for many party scenarios, not just weddings.
Reusable Materials
The ever-so-trendy mason jar is a serious party workhorse. Don’t underestimate it; from crudite holders to tealights, cutlery, crafts, it can hold everything and cross party theme lines. Cake platters and stands aren’t just for cakes….if you’ve seen my parties you know I use mine for everything.A stash of china, cloth napkins, drinking glasses and pretty silverware are perfect for those impromptu events. You will always be prepared. Yes, you do need a home for your items (I currently store my partyware everywhere from garage shelves to under the bed) but it’s totally worth it.
Upcycled Crafts
Upcycled crafts like these adorable DIY watercolor paper flower favor boxes, from my favorite craft gal Shauna Young, are a eco-fabulous way to create personal pieces from ordinary objects.

I love the biodegradable meal ideas especially the paperless meal. The bandana plate/napkin is right up my alley because doing dishes is my least favorite chore! Love it all!
