How To Make A Crazy Cake For Shark Week
I was sent product from The Bakers Party Shop at no charge but use of and opinions are my own.
Yay, it’s Shark Week! Where we are reminded we are nowhere near the top of the food chain. When the lovely ladies of The Bakers Party Shop sent me me some under the sea themed goodies, it was the perfect time to share how to make a crazy cake for Shark Week!
What is a crazy cake? It all started when my boys turned 13 and 16 a few weeks ago. They wanted low-key celebrations, but there was no way these milestone birthdays were going away without something over the top. One was for a BBQ birthday at the park, the other has a 4th of July birthday. Since I received so many questions and comments, a post on how-to was needed…I even made a video!
- You can start with a homemade cake or pick up one from your favorite bakery.
- Chocolate molds were used to make the shark pops, starfish, lobster and crab candies from candy melts.
- I used shark cookie cutters to cut oven-bake clay into shapes; add the skewer to the back of the clay before baking. Finish details with a permanent marker.
- Melt and squeeze green candy melt through a disposable piping bag onto a sheet of wax paper to create seaweed. Add a toothpick before it sets so you can stick it into the cake.
- Edible food paint made our bloody shark details and the stripes on our Rice Krispy surfboards.
- Cut mini doughnuts in half and add details with red fondant to create life preservers.
- Check out this great tutorial to make the shark candy bark!
- You can dress up your drink bottles by rimming with melted candy melt and dip into sprinkles! Place in fridge to set, then finish the look with fun paper straws.
The key to putting together a crazy cake, just like a styled table, layers, layers, layers! Place tall elements first and stagger your heights, placing smaller elements in the front. I’ve been stepping out of my comfort zone lately, and venturing into the world of video so check out my first full version below for how I assembled the cake.
There is no right or wrong way to place everything; just stick to a simple grouping pattern and have lots of different textures with your various candies and other extras and you will be set! The biggest tip, just have fun!
Be sure and head over to The Bakers Party Shop for seriously cute treat making must-haves like the starfish and shark lollipop chocolate molds, shark cookie cutters, blue two-toned straws, Under The Sea sprinkles and edible red food paint.
