How to Build a Super Bowl Party Platter

Well, our Seattle Seahawks are out of the Super Bowl LIV race…we are going to be ok, but we have to move on. With grazing boards and platters still the hottest and most fun way to feed a crowd, let’s talk about how to build a Super Bowl party platter and table for a great watch party.
Football party food always includes the holy trinity of wings, chips and guac and a comically long sub sandwich. Mercifully, no sub sandwich here; sidebar, those are the worst, they fall apart, shredded lettuce is everywhere and there is always one type of meat no one eats. You would do better (and more affordable) to put together your own sandwich bar.
But I digress…I focused on creating a chicken wing platter and serve other finger foods that are easy to pick up and eat. The key to a good party is to always have plenty of food; guests will replenish often during the game, especially at half-time. Platters are easy to keep an eye on to replenish. There is nothing I hate more than an empty spot that I don’t remember what was there.
- If you have not already invested in a large platter or board yet, there are so many options! Round, rectangle, wood, metal, ceramic…your choices are only limited to your budget and availability. My round platter is one of my faves from Crate & Barrel. My black and white marble platter is no longer available but here is a similar one.
- Next, cover your table with black butcher paper or chalkboard paper and with a chalk pencil, create a customized table cover.
- Whether homemade or from your favorite wing bar, have several flavors of wings and sauces from ranch to BBQ and buffalo.
- Yes, we do need that obligatory veggie tray. Trust me, replating on your platter will make them more appealing.
- Did you know how many options of tortilla chip flavors are out? Blue corn, black bean, guacamole…mix things up with non-standard choices, especially if they are in your team’s colors. For example, blue corn chips and green salsa or guacamole is Seattle Seahawks perfect.
- Round out your platter with other fun snacks like flavored popcorn (hot buffalo popcorn is life-changing) or roasted nuts.
- I just couldn’t fit the soft pretzel bites and queso on my platter; no worries, your table can have as many platters as needed. I found mine in my grocer’s bakery section; for you overachievers, you can also make them.
- I’m sure you are wondering about my trophy-shaped pieces; they are from Rosanna, Inc.’s Luxe Moderne line; sadly they are no longer available on the website. But you may find them on secondary sites like Waiting on Martha, Wayfair or Amazon.
- My Astroturf coasters are from Target a few years ago, but you can make your own…I’ve done it before and shared the easy tute on my Instagram page.
- Run to your local Dollar Store or order their football glasses online. Seriously, $1 for a 23-oz football glass? I painted the threads with glass paint.
- Don’t forget candy in both teams’ colors; I love to head to Party City’s candy section. They have candy options in a rainbow of colors.
